For some of us more inclined to work on Linux for film making, there are plenty of professional quality tools available.

If we start with Non Linear Editing:

kdenlive : Kdenlive is an acronym for KDE Non-Linear Video Editor. It is primarily aimed at the GNU/Linux platform but also works on BSD and MacOS. It is currently being ported to Windows as a GSOC project.

Kdenlive is an open source video editor. The project was started around 2003. Kdenlive is built on Qt and the KDE Frameworks libraries. Most of the video processing is done by the MLT Framework, which relies on many other open source projects like FFmpeg, frei0r, movit, ladspa, sox, etc…

Our software was designed to answer most needs, from basic video editing to professionnal work.

Kdenlive is developed by a small team and new contributors are welcome.

Supports FFMpeg, ProRes, H.264, AVCHD, DNxHD, DIVX, HDV, Quicktime

Suppports multi track video editing, any audio/video format, configurable interface and shortcuts, extensive titler, supports many effects and transitions, audio and video scopes, proxy editing, atomatic backups, keyframeable effects, etc.
