Russian Arm in India

Post by aditi »

Do we have a 'Russian Arm' in India? Or an equivalent, without having to mount a Jib on a truck back? Whats the best way to shoot vehicles with the equivalent shot designs you get from a 'Russian Arm'?

Mad Studios has a Scorpio Arm.

The Scorpio Arm is a whole new concept of a Camera Car.

Mounted on a Mercedes ML 350, it enables dynamic and incredibly stable camera movements from atop the moving car, even at high speeds. The Scorpio Arm is controlled from within the car and allows the DOP with his team (comprising the driver, arm operator, head operator and focus puller) to plan and communicate between themselves and with the camera   car driver over wireless communication systems.

Image monitoring is enabled on 5 high resolution monitors (HD and SDI). A HD SDI wireless video/audio link allows the director and his team to monitor the action from upto a kilometer away.

The 3.5 meter arm (extensible to 6 meters) is fitted overhead with a 5-axis, fully stabilized head. The arm allows moving the camera from high up to low down, 360º on any axis, allowing scintillating motion capture possibilities – extremely dynamic yet absolutely stable even on off-road terrain.

With its digital control that allows pre-recorded positions, set limits and movement memorizing programs the Scorpio Arm is the most technologically advanced car-mounted arm of its kind.
