True Detective

A new drama series, True Detective focuses on Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) and “Rust” Cohle (Matthew McConaughey), two detectives and former partners who worked in Louisiana's Criminal Investigation Division in the mid-1990s. In 2012, for reasons not immediately revealed, the two are interviewed separately by investigators about their most notorious case: the macabre 1995 murder of a prostitute by a possible serial killer with disturbing occult leanings. As they look back on the case, Hart and Cohle's personal backstories and often-strained relationship become a major focal point.

Following the urban adventures of a group of 20-something women, the series focuses on Hannah Horvath (Lena Dunham) and her complicated web of NYC friends, ex-friends, boyfriends, and ex-boyfriends. This season, Hannah forges ahead with her dream of being a bestselling author and even starts to earn a little cash, but her enthusiasm is tempered by the responsibility she feels for her now-ex Adam (Adam Driver), convalescing after his S1- finale accident. Let down by work and still lonely after calling things off with Charlie, Marnie (Allison Williams) needs her best friend and former roommate more than ever, but lingering awkwardness and some surprising turns only drive a wedge further between them. Meanwhile, Jessa (Jemima Kirke) meets her new in-laws and attempts to live the married life, and Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) gives Ray (Alex Karpovsky) another chance at a relationship. The girls may have their ups and downs, but the show's raw poignancy and fresh humour remain constant.
